We are one week from Christmas 2016 and it seems common among people I speak to that this year has vanished but when I stop to think about what I have done this year, it actually seems like it’s been a very productive, exciting, meaningful and happy 12 months!
I usually reflect on my year on New Years Eve but I’ll be knees deep into a 40th birthday celebration somewhere up the north coast of NSW at that time this year. So I’m going to do it now instead. Taking some time to reflect is a worthwhile habit to get into because even if you think it’s been a shit year you can pick out areas of growth, learnings, happy and positive times to outshine the bad stuff and shift your thinking to a more gracious frame of mind. Even if you find one small thing that made you happy it’ll be worthwhile.
In no particular order of importance, my milestones for 2016 include getting married to my bff), the birth of our son Lenny, starting my job at Pivotal Health and Fitness, completing my Precision Nutrition Level One course, starting my Level two Precision Nutrition course, solidifying my position in society as a legitimate fitness and nutrition coach, travelling to Toronto to meet the Precision Nutrition crew and film promotional material with them, attending the Nurture Change Business Retreat in Fiji, building some solid foundations to launch my health coaching business next year and finally, taking charge of my health and wellbeing.
I can be very hard on myself and also impatient so this little pat on the back helps me to motivate myself to keep going. This reflection makes all the tough stuff easier to cope with. There has been some amazing lessons learned.
I hope you have achieved what you set out to achieve this year. If you didn’t, why not? Did you take enough steps in the right direction? Had you planned for the right things? Or did you get derailed by the busy-ness of everyday life?
Don’t worry: we can all do better next year! On that note…I’m asking you to send though to me the cool stuff you did this year. The stuff that helped you to grow and the awesome things you have planned for next year. Maybe there’s someway I can help you. Let me know.
